inspired

This is one guy’s report of 2006, with stats about all sorts of things, from how many beers he drank to how many emails he sent.

I’m inspired. I’ve started a spreadsheet and I’ll be keeping track of the following per day:

  • emails sent
  • miles travelled
  • wikipedia pages read
  • beers consumed
  • work day?
  • photos taken (digital/ film)
  • albums purchased
  • concerts attended
  • movies seen (theater/ netflix)
  • hours of TV
  • haircut
  • shave
  • miles biked
  • miles ran
  • miles swam

Andy (not andyl) is also inspired. He’s keeping track of mostly the same list of things.

That’s a cool idea. I think at the end of the year, you should present a pie chart showing how you spent your time. The categories could be work, sleep, tv, movies, biking, wikipedia, email, concerts, radio station, etc. You can choose the categories as you see fit.

At one point I had a list going of all the different types of beers I had tried. I think I gave up on that 2 or 3 years ago.

One of the cool things about the Wii is that it keeps track of how much time you spent each day on each activity. So, at year’s end, I could conceivably go back and figure out how much time I spent playing “Solomon’s Key” or “Wii Sports”. On second thought, that might not be a good thing. I don’t think I’d be happy to realize that I spent the equivalent of an entire month of my life playing video games.

I’ve got one better for you. I propose you continuously blog[h] all of your stats. It might be a unique enough thing that you pick up a few new readers, and it might keep you more motivated to know that people are watching. I’ll even write the basic “web app” for you…

[…] After Randy’s comment on my post about being inspired to keep track of some life stats for 2007, I was further inspired to put up some of the stats in more or less real time. So there they are. Are there any other stats you want to see? The full list of stats that I’m tracking: […]
