new old NMH stuff
If you haven’t heard that some new old Neutral Milk Hotel material has surfaced or if you have but don’t know where to find the recordings, you ain’t no picasso has step-by-step instructions to getting all the current crop.
If you haven’t heard of Neutral Milk Hotel, Familiarized! Yourself! Now! I still think In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is easily the best (and most important, to me) album from the last ten years.

Hurrah!

That became much less of a “hurrah” for me when I read about the circumstances of these things seeing the light. Then I listened to On Avery Island, well choked up.
Between that and Harold Pinter’s Nobel lecture, I’ve been choked up several times today. Jesus.

mbmCD got me the track that’s linked directly on YANP but it looks like more work for me to get the others…

It’s scary to think that that album came out over 7 years ago. I remember buying my freshly wrapped copy in the student center Newbury comics. Damn.
I heard on the radio (maybe WZBC?) that at some point Jeff Magnum had a massive nervous breakdown and wasn’t/isn’t doing that well.
Dylan talks a lot about “Highway 61 Revisted” (and I suppose “Bringin It All Back Home”) being the culmination of “the sound in his head” — the music he heard, the music he envisioned creating.
“Aeroplane Over the Sea” is the best example of what I WISH I could hear in my head.
