using google sketchup
I’m moving in a little over a week and I thought I’d use this opportunity to try Google SketchUp to try to model the apartment. It’s an easy program to get the hang of but it proved difficult to change the model in precise ways after the model is started. For instance, if I wanted to change Bedroom 1 from 13’x13′ to 14’x15′ now, it would prove very difficult.
(For comparison, that would be a relatively easy change in either Solidworks or ProEngineer.)
Note: some dimensions are approximate or not to scale, due to the problem mentions above. Mainly the bathroom isn’t that narrow.

SketchUp can get messy fast once the walls are already linked together—pushing one surface out usually ends up distorting three adjacent corners you didn’t mean to touch. Grouping each room into its own component early on usually helps, but retrofitting exact measurements after the fact is always frustrating.
I actually tried exporting a basic overhead angle into the video generator I’ve been using as an image keyframe, prompting a slow forward dolly through the doorway to see how tight the walking path felt. It still occasionally warps door frames on longer generations, but seeing a rough camera pass gave me a much better read on the furniture bottleneck before moving boxes in.

Tu as fini par trouver une méthode pour ajuster les cotes sans repartir de zéro, ou tu as abandonné et pris les vraies mesures au mètre ?

I’ve hit that exact wall with SketchUp – once you set the room dimensions, scaling the walls gets fiddly. Did you end up restarting the model, or did you find a plugin that actually let you resize cleanly?
