40 days and 40 nights: caffeine
I’m giving up caffeine for lent. This should be interesting.
I should note: the 40 days and 40 nights of lent are not sequential–I’ll have Sundays off, though I probably won’t have caffeine the first Sunday, just to help break myself of the habit.
Update: The first day was pretty drowsy. This may be difficult.

What was your thought process in choosing caffeine?

Well, I just thought I should be more moderate about my soda consumption–I definitely have too much now. But the actual addiction is probably the caffeine, so I thought I’d give that up entirely and the soda would follow.

Yeah, cutting down on soda is a good thing. That said, giving up caffeine instead of soda explicitly still leaves a lot of sodas on the table: most lemon-lime varieties, most root beers, most cream sodas, most orange or grape sodas. Plus, Coke even makes a caffeine-free variety.
Anyway, good luck. I hope you find it rewarding.

Colin, I’m aware of caffeine-free sodas, it’s just that I have little interest in drinking those, so, for me at least, giving up caffeine mostly means giving up soda, too.
