fun civics tests
Here’s a couple fun tests: take a piece of paper and write all fifty states down. No references or asking people. No studying. Take as much time as you need.
Andyl got all of those.
Second test, write all of the capitals down next to the fifty states. Between andy and I we got 44 out of 50 right (and one additional spelling error). That’s a bit so-so.

Well at 4 AM I was able to get the 50 states with ease (well 49 with ease then a five minute panic as I tried to figure out what poor state I had overlooked – it was Wyoming). But as for the state capitals I only was able to name 30 (without the help of a partner of course). Actually I guessed incorrectly on a lot of them. For example – Anchorage instead of Juno.

Adrian came up with more of the capitals than I did. My memory was abysmal.
But I do know what the three branches of government are.

Err – I meant Juneao – I didn’t even bother to count spelling mistakes.

I thought I got all 50 states … then I realized I listed both Alabama and Alaska twice. After a few minutes of pondering the missing two states came to me: Wyoming and Utah.
I can’t even think of a single city in about a third of the states. Lots of the others I still don’t know the capital. Now that I’ve given up and looked at the list, I’ve never even heard of about 15 of the capital cities!! I’m really curious to know which ones were the 6 you couldn’t get.

It’s funny. When I did the state-naming part (the capital part is new) a while ago (over Christmas), I missed Wyoming too. Why does everyone forget Wyoming?
The capitals we missed were the ones of the following states: Michigan, Alabama, North Carolina, Missouri, Mississippi, Indiana. (I don’t want to actually name the capitals in case people still want to play. I guess I did just name six states that people might otherwise miss in the state part of the game. Oh well.)

Here’s a map of the US – can you fill in all of the states?

I meant Illinois rather than Indiana as one of the ones whose capital we missed.
As for the blank map, that’s a lot easier for me than a blank page to make a list of the 50 states—I have a good spacial memory. 4 minutes 22 seconds, no mistakes, no abbreviations.

my coworker len and i were able to come up with all 50 states and 43(correct)capitals, we missed: CO, KY, TN, AZ, WO, MICH, & OR. i have to say i was disappointed. and i agree, the blank map would be way easier to make a list of the states.
