me in my astronaut sunglasses
(by Natalie Kardos)
I went to a wedding over Labor Day weekend with Natalie. I call these my astronaut sunglasses. They’re made by American Optical—Randolph Engineering makes the same model—and were apparently the choice of astronauts (and military pilots and Don Draper).

I realized recently that you look like Edgar Snyder. You need to get a picture taken of yourself posing like this:

Hey awesome glasses I’ve been thinking about getting a pair of Ao’s but was wondering what lenses do you have? email me at power.5000@live.com if possible.

It’s not so much they were the “Choice” of astronauts and the military, they were official “government issue”. It’s what you were given and it was part of your uniform. Heaven forbid you show up for duty wearing Wayfarers or some other type of sunglasses. Back in my Army days those were highly coveted by civilians as they were not generally readily available outside government channels. Seeing them does bring back memories.

Alex,
They’re gold with bullet temples, 52mm and grey lenses. (Not sure what percentage grey but fairly dark.) I hope that helps.
