Libs, yes Michael Pollan is everywhere these. I've seen that article and a few other articles like that.

I think that justification is even less reasonable than the health reasons to fine for selling HFCS. Why not just fine for selling corn in the stores? Let's also levy fines for selling peanut butter. Peanut subsidies are all manners of messed up, too.

Also, I have no problems with corn farming. Corn, and some extent soy and peas, has definitely helped give me an education and other opportunities.

Andy, true. And I think I can be thankful for that.

I feel like I should point out that fully half of the mentioned items were simply "proposed," or something the board "wants." I know that where I am, if everything that was proposed as legislation became law, I'd live in a very unpleasant world.

Just FYI, the problem with high fructose corn syrup is not only the health related issue-- the production of corn syrup is one of the biggest driving forces of government subsidies of corn farming in this country. And there are a host of reasons why corn farming is problematic.

Here is a strange op/ed from the NY Times about SF food legislation and farm subsidies.

Here is more information about the use of hfcs and related issues.

I agree with you - not everything should be legislated. In fact, I think we should go to lengths to not legislate things unless absolutely necessary

I don't disagree with everything on that list. For example, I think people should be able to know what they're eating if they want to. However, a lot of those things are ridiculous. Also, in case nobody else thought of this, businesses that leave their lights on overnight *are* getting fined - when they get their utility bill.
